SESRIC and Uganda Bureau of Statistics Held Technical Consultation on TQS-Youth Integration
Date: 21 May 2025
Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC held a virtual technical consultation meeting with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) on 21 May 2025 to explore potential collaboration on integrating the TQS-Youth module into ongoing national youth surveys in Uganda.

The meeting was held in line with Resolution Item 5 on the implementation of the Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS) and TQS-Youth Integration Project adopted during the 13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom). The project is jointly implemented by SESRIC in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the CDC Foundation.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the objectives and scope of the TQS-Youth Project, which aims to strengthen the capacities of National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of OIC countries in producing internationally comparable data on tobacco use crucial to monitoring its impact on public health.

Representatives from UBOS, including senior officials and technical experts, were briefed on the structure and implementation approach of the TQS-Youth module. SESRIC shared key documents, including the TQS-Youth booklet, and other relevant materials for UBOS’s consideration. The parties discussed the feasibility of integrating the module into UBOS’s planned surveys and agreed to continue consultations to finalize the modalities of cooperation.

To date, the TQS and TQS-Youth Project has been successfully implemented in 19 OIC countries. In addition, five OIC countries are implementing and targeting to complete the integration of the TQS into ongoing national surveys by the end of 2025, including Uganda.
