SESRIC delegation headed by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK visited the National Statistics Office (ONS) of Algeria on the sidelines of the 2025 Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Annual Meetings in Algiers. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration in the area of statistics.

The meeting with Mr Taoufik Hadj MESSAOUD focused on potential joint initiatives to boost the institutional capacity of ONS of Algeria in areas such as advanced statistical techniques, data processing, econometric modelling, and the use of software tools.

H.E. SELÇUK also emphasised the importance of strong cooperation among the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of OIC Member Countries and the active participation of the ONS of Algeria in the statistical activities of the Centre. The SESRIC Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme uses the South-South modality and focuses on exchanging best practices to better develop the capacities of the human resources of NSOs in the member countries. Algeria has so far actively participated in over 50 SESRIC capacity-building activities.

The meeting ended with both parties’ reaffirmation towards informed policymaking and sustainable development by effectively using high-quality statistical data.
