SESRIC organised a virtual Training Course on “Promoting Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in the Agriculture Sector”, in collaboration with  the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia, on 13-14 January 2026 within the framework of SESRIC Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSH-CaB) Programme.

The training course aimed at equipping participants across OIC countries with a solid understanding of occupational health and safety risks in the agriculture sector, provided practical guidance on the safe operation of machinery and proper handling of chemicals, and strengthened their capacity to identify and respond to environmental hazards, while promoting safe and sustainable work practices. It was benefitted by 145 experts and representatives from the relevant ministries and national institutions in 25 OIC countries.

The training course featured technical experts from NIOSH Malaysia and covered the following topics:

  • Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) in Farming
  • OSH Management and Emergency Planning
  • Machinery Safety and Guarding of Agricultural Equipment
  • Ergonomics and Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in Agriculture
  • Biological Hazards and Zoonoses Prevention
  • Confined Space Safety in Agriculture
  • Chemical Safety: Management and Handling of Agrochemical

The training programme sought to support organisations in reducing workplace accidents, ensuring compliance with OSH regulations, improving operational efficiency, and fostering a safer and more sustainable agricultural sector across the OIC region.

SESRIC launched the Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSH-CaB) Programme in 2010 to support the efforts of the OIC Member States in improving workplace safety and health, reducing occupational risk of injury and disease.
