Within the scope of the 5^th Istanbul International Water Forum, held under the theme “Strengthening Water Resilience: From Innovation to Action”, Dr. Atilla KARAMAN, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation, participated as a speaker in Session 1.3 titled “Strengthening Capacities for a Water-Resilient World”. The session brought together policymakers, experts, and development partners to discuss capacity-building strategies for enhancing water resilience amid growing climate and resource challenges.

During the session, SESRIC provided an overview of water realities and emerging risks across OIC member countries, highlighting increasing water stress, climate change impacts, and growing demand pressures. SESRIC’s efforts in the water domain, particularly the Water Resources Management Capacity Building Programme (Water-CaB), launched in 2015 with an aim to enhance human and institutional capacities in water management across OIC countries, were articulated in detail. SESRIC also focused on the OIC Water Resources Portal as well as its publications on water.

To date, SESRIC has implemented 65 capacity-building programmes in the field of water, reaching around 2,000 participants from the OIC member countries. These efforts contribute to strengthening technical expertise, improving knowledge exchange, and supporting evidence-based policymaking in water governance. The importance of integrated approaches, digital solutions, and international cooperation in addressing water-related challenges and enhancing resilience were additionally emphasized.
