Statistical Training Course on ‘SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) Indicators’

Date: 09-10 June 2026
Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

According to the 2025 SDG Progress Report of SESRIC, advancing infrastructure is crucial to boost development levels and close the gap between OIC and other regions. While progress has been recorded in some areas under SDG 9, it remains uneven, with many indicators showing moderate or stagnant trends. At the current pace, most OIC countries are unlikely to achieve the SDG 9 targets by 2030.

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Statistical Training Course on “SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) Indicators” on 9–10 June 2026, for the benefit of 105 experts from the national statistical offices and other relevant constituents of the national statistical systems of the 33 OIC Countries.

The training course was organised in collaboration with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and delivered by competent experts from the Manpower and Social Statistics Division, Malaysian Bureau of Labour Statistics, and National Accounts Statistics Division of DOSM.

The main objective of the training course was to strengthen the technical capacities of the participants in the collection, compilation, processing, analysis, and dissemination of SDG 9 indicators, while facilitating the sharing of Malaysia’s relevant country experience with the participating Member Countries.

The training covered the following topics:

  • Statistical Framework and Implementation of SDGs in Malaysia
  • Availability and Reporting of SDG 9 Indicators
  • Monitoring SDG 9 in Malaysia: Current Status and Insights

The StatCaB Programme was initiated in early 2007. Since its initiation, SESRIC has completed more than 590 capacity building activities on various statistical domains and themes in different modalities.
