H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Cheikh Tidiane DIÉYE, Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation of Senegal, on the margins of the 5th Istanbul International Water Forum.

The meeting focused on exploring opportunities to strengthen cooperation between SESRIC and the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation of Senegal in the areas of water-related statistics, research, and capacity-building activities. Both sides exchanged views on Senegal’s notable achievements and successful practices in water governance and discussed the possibility of sharing these experiences with other OIC Countries through specialised training programmes, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

The discussions also highlighted the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW)’s Africa Water Vision 2025 and explored its possible alignment with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Water Vision, with a view to enhancing policy coherence and strengthening cooperation on common water challenges across Africa and the broader OIC region.

The two sides also noted Senegal’s important leadership role in global water diplomacy. Dakar hosted the 9th World Water Forum, and Senegal, together with the United Arab Emirates, will co-host the 2026 UN Water Conference.
