SESRIC Participated in the ‘National and Local Crop Varieties Promotion Day’ Programme in Türkiye

SESRIC participated in the programme entitled National and Local Crop Varieties Promotion Day, held on 18 June 2026 in Ankara.

The programme was organised by the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) and the Field Crops Central Research Institute Directorate under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and brought together senior officials, researchers, experts and representatives of relevant institutions to highlight Türkiye’s nationally developed crop varieties and achievements in agricultural research and development.

The programme commenced with opening remarks delivered by senior officials of the participating institutions, highlighting the importance of strengthening national agricultural production, enhancing food security and promoting sustainable farming practices through the development of locally adapted crop varieties.

Participants were introduced to a wide range of nationally developed crop varieties and innovative agricultural practices. The programme also featured a field visit, during which experts provided detailed information on various crop varieties cultivated in the demonstration fields.

The field demonstrations covered several strategic crops, including wheat, barley, chickpea, lentil and other legumes. Participants had the opportunity to observe the performance, characteristics and adaptability of these varieties under field conditions and learn about their contribution to increasing agricultural productivity, sustainability and food security.

SESRIC’s participation in the programme provided a valuable opportunity to learn from Türkiye’s experience in agricultural research, crop breeding and seed development. Such experiences may offer useful lessons for OIC Member Countries in their efforts to strengthen food security improve agricultural productivity and enhance resilience to climate-related challenges.

Through its Agriculture and Food Security Capacity Building Programme (Agri-CaB), SESRIC remains committed to facilitating the exchange of knowledge, expertise and good practices among OIC Member Countries. In this regard, the experiences and achievements showcased during the programme may contribute to future capacity-building initiatives and knowledge sharing activities aimed at supporting sustainable agricultural development and food security across the OIC region.
