Training Course on ‘Building Institutional Capacity for Innovative SME Financing Models’

SESRIC organised a virtual Training Course on “Building Institutional Capacity for Innovative SME Financing Models” on 28-29 July 2026 as part of its Project on “Empowering SME Development Agencies with Innovative Financing Solutions under the OIC-SMENET Framework”. The project is co-funded under the 13th Call for Project Proposals of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) Project Funding.
The training course aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of SME development agency staff to understand, evaluate, and facilitate innovative financing models that address persistent SME financing gaps across OIC countries. 
The activity brought together 64 participants, including technical staff and executives of SME development organisations and relevant ministries and institutions from 10 OIC member countries.
The two-day training covered the following topics:
  • Understanding the SME Financing Gap and Key Financing Barriers;
  • Microfinance, Crowdfunding and Peer-to-Peer Lending;
  • FinTech-Enabled Lending Solutions, Islamic Finance Instruments and Credit Guarantee Schemes;
  • Venture Capital, Angel Investment Networks and Public-Private Co-Investment Fund Structures
The COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) introduced the COMCEC Project Funding (CPF) in 2013, a financing mechanism that supports projects submitted by OIC member countries and relevant OIC institutions. Funding is provided in the form of a grant through the Development and Investment Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, a primary body in the CPF scheme. Since the initiation of CPF, SESRIC has implemented 19 projects to date across various cooperation areas and sectoral themes determined by the CCO. 
For the 13th Call for Project Proposals of CPF, the CCO has completed the evaluation process and announced the final list of successful projects. Three SESRIC projects have been identified as eligible for funding in the 2026 implementation period. These projects, designed in collaboration with relevant national institutions in member countries, aim to strengthen human resources and institutional capacities in the areas of agriculture, poverty alleviation, and tourism cooperation areas.
